Mickey Cake

This is the cake I made for my son's 4th birthday this year.  I took the clubhouse template from Disney's website, then made my characters out of fondant.  We found out that the colors will change if left in the sun, so next time we'll not bring the cake out until the last minute.  The kids all loved it.  As did my Mickey Mouse crazy boy.  The main cake is butter cream, then the clubhouse is color flow icing.  I was not entirely happy with how the color flow turned out, it was still sticky and cracked when we tried to transfer it.  I may experiment next time with putting the color flow directly on the cake.  It turned out that we had to invert the image to get it onto the cake, then i had to touch up a few sections, but it turned out good.  All the color leeched out of the pinks and purples when in the sun, and the blues got darker.  It was interesting.

Leftovers

Have tons of leftover frosting? I know the feeling. Seems like I always have leftover frosting or fondant somewhere. Mostly on my hips, but that's another story. This story is about a butter ball turkey and how he came to be in our Thanksgiving feast. In the few weeks before Thanksgiving, I had done a few cakes and my mom requested a do another cake for Thanksgiving. Isn't Thanksgiving all about pie??? Apparently not this year. Well, I didn't particularly have my heart in the project this time. So I made a small 6 inch cake and frosted it with leftover purple icing from my grandma's 75th birthday party. Then I had some leftover fondant from something or other, I can't even remember. I decided to make a little turkey out of fondant and place him on top of the cake. He actually turned out really adorable! I still had a little fondant and I can't seem to make any cakes without a border, so I cut maple leaves out with my cookie cutter and lined them up around the edge. The cake turned out so cute and everyone enjoyed it.

Party Girl!

This was made for our Girl's Day party a few years ago. We did a Treasure Hunt. I would consider this particular cake one of my flops, but it's still fun to see!

I made this cake for our family's Murder Mystery dinner on New Years 2008. We did a western theme and the PR stands for Prickly Rock.
