Christmas in July

Our Girl's Day party had a Christmas in July theme this year (actually a few years ago). I have been wanting to try out the giant cupcake pan for a while, so I borrowed it from a friend. I had extra batter so I also made some normal sized cupcakes. I iced the cakes in buttercream, but I really wanted to do a fancy bow, so I made that in fondant. Once again I made the fondant too soft so it was hard to work with, but I got the look I wanted in the end.

July 4th

I love creating cakes for special occasions! This was my very first experiment with fondant. I make my own marshmallow fondant because I think it tastes so much better and it's definitely CHEAPER. I do not like how the fondant sticks to my fingers so I think I used WAY too much shortening on this cake, that's why it's so shiny. Still, it turned out pretty cute considering my experimental technology. Also, I am super lazy so I make all of my fondant in the KitchenAid mixer.

1st Birthday

These are the cakes I made for my son's first birthday. At the time he was completely obsessed with Nemo. We had a big group, so I made a small one just for him and a 2 tier for the family. This was my first tiered cake and I should have doubled it.

Opening Day!

I have a family full of avid hunters. Every October life stops for a while during the big HUNT! In honor of this tradition I created this cake for the guys. I really had to search for the elk to put on top!

More and more

This cute sailboat cake was made for my good friend's baby shower! I just love the colors and simplicity. This was the first cake I made where I cut the cake to the shape I wanted.

This was just a fun cake night I had with some friends. I taught her how to make icing and just a few simple techniques. As you can see, the one I made has a lot of speckles because I didn't try very hard to keep the cake out of the icing. I probably didn't make the icing thin enough.

This cake was for our office Christmas party.

Party Girl!

This was made for our Girl's Day party a few years ago. We did a Treasure Hunt. I would consider this particular cake one of my flops, but it's still fun to see!

I made this cake for our family's Murder Mystery dinner on New Years 2008. We did a western theme and the PR stands for Prickly Rock.

Ladybug and Family Tree

This is a cake that I helped my Grandma make. She baked the cakes and frosted the base layers, all I did was the grass, flowers and dots. Still, it turned out super cute!

This was made for a family reunion and I took the idea from my Wilton cake class book. Everyone loved it!
